Lauren has been dancing since she was little. "I always see so many people in shows, and they are the star of something. "The best part of being on stage is when people laugh with you and not at you," Lauren said.

Lauren's mom, Denise, said her 7-year-old is "the life of the party, center of attention and full of drama." Lauren Matrisciano of East Stroudsburg will perform in the show for the third year. "I do this because it gives me an adrenaline rush and it's fun," she said. When asked why she loves performing so much, Riley had a few reasons. Riley is part of the ensemble for "Kids Kabaret" and also has a solo part singing "Big Girls Don't Cry." I can be a sassy kangaroo or a rock star." "I want to be an actress, a country singer and a dancer," Riley said. Henderson takes ballet classes as well as singing, and said she wants to be a performer when she grows up. "She's done Theatrical Gems, 'The Nutcracker' and now getting ready to do a lead role in 'Seussical.' She really loves it." She wanted to try out for it the next year, and from there it's jumped off," said Amy Henderson, Riley's mom. She's always liked musicals since being a baby. "We went to see 'Kids Kabaret' three years ago. Riley Henderson, a 10-year-old theater enthusiast, will hit the stage for the second year in "Kids Kabaret." This year's show includes 20 performers ranging in age from 4 to 14. For others, pop music is more their singing style." "For some parents, the weekend-only rehearsal schedule of 'Kids Kabaret' suits their lifestyle better than our intense rehearsal schedule of 10 days for the main-stage shows. "It has become a great springboard for our first-time performers, as well as a fun experience for the kids who do it year after year," McClosky said. The show is not only entertaining for the audience, but a great way to get kids involved in theater at an early age.

The love of performing must be fed, so I cast the kids and created a show around them. That left me with dozens of talented children without a show for them to be in. The children that were being cast were selected not only because they were talented, but also because they looked the most like they could be the adult actors' children, which was what I needed to cast.

"The first year we did it because we were doing a show that only had roles for about five children and more than 60 auditioned. "The show was created to be 'by kids, for kids and about kids,'" said Midge McClosky, executive director of Shawnee Playhouse. This is the fifth year for the show that changes the theme every year. The annual "Kids Kabaret" show will have you singing your favorite music from the '60s.
